One really accurate means of envisioning the problem is this: Employers and candidates enter a college stadium at night, n moon, no lights and everyone has a bag on their head. Employers have hundreds of copies of job descriptions while prospective employees carry their Resume/CV around with them. The doors are shut and the announcement is read. Hire anyone you find and like. One can imagine the odds of success comparable to a lottery.
It’s not difficult to draw the analogies in this picture to the run ad, resume, and sort, then try again. The present system of advertising is crumbling for the same reason that many databases and social networks lose population. The professional unemployment rate has held steady and slowly rises. The population representing fewer than 2.7% is assumed to be inactive in seeking work for a variety of reasons.
As we rapidly approach the time where most employers see the handwriting on the wall, it will be a bit behind the power curve. Playing catch up in a recovery isn’t near as nice as riding the wave’s crest. Recruiters with the best OLD/NEW school training will rarely get their suits wet but will make many more trips to the banks.
